President Volodymyr Zelensky is encouraging Ukrainians to fight on against Russian invaders who have nothing but “violence, terror and weapons”.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has pleaded with his allies for more aid as he warned Russian troops his country is more united than ever.
The President, who regularly addresses the public on social media, has encouraged Ukrainians to fight on against invaders who have nothing but “violence, terror and weapons”.
“The Russian invaders cannot conquer us. They do not have such strength. They do not have such spirit,” he said in a translated video posted on Facebook.
“They are holding only on violence, only on terror, only on weapons, which they have a lot.
“But the invaders have no natural basis for normal life. So that people can feel happy and dream. They are organically incapable of making life normal!
“So I say frankly, we still need to hold on, we still have to fight. Every day and every night we must look for ways to cause maximum damage to our enemies.”
Mr Zelensky said Ukraine has lost approximately 1,300 troops as of Saturday as he urged his allies to get involved.
“I keep reiterating to our allies and friends abroad; they have to keep doing more for our country, for Ukrainians and Ukraine,” he said.
“Because it is not only for Ukraine, but it is for all of Europe.
“The evil which purposefully targets peaceful cities and ambulance vans and explodes hospitals will not stop with just one country if they have the strength to keep going.”
Russian forces are advancing even closer to the capital after troops destroyed the airport in the town of Vasylkiv, south of Kyiv, on Saturday morning.
The town’s mayor Nataliia Balasynovych said Russian troops fired on Vasylkiv, abolishing the airport, its runway and the warehouse with fuels and lubricants.
“Today at about 7am, enemy forces shelled the city of Vasylkiv,” she said in a translated video.
“Eight missiles hit, shelled the airport. As a result of the missile strikes, the airport was completely destroyed, the runway was destroyed.
“Ammunition is still detonating because one of the missiles hit the ammunition depot. The warehouse with fuels and lubricants was also destroyed.
“As a result, the capacity of our airport has been completely eliminated.”
