An unlicensed driver has allegedly thrown flares at police during a terrifying high speed chase that wound through Perth’s northern suburbs last night.
Officers attempted to stop the red MG3 at Koondoola around 9.30pm, but the driver allegedly took off.
A 45-minute chase ensued.
One bystander, Alex Godfrey, told 9News they just saw “two bright lights heading towards me fast”.
“He was just giving everything to get away from police.
“I’m surprised no-one got hurt.”
The 28-year-old driver is accused of setting off flares to distract officers. The flares sparked a scrub fire.
In an attempt to evade police for good, the driver ditched the car in Moore River and fled through bush and into nearby property.
He was apprehended at a Caraban property.
Retrieving the car from Moore River proved to be the next challenge for police.
The current had moved the vehicle downstream and flipped it upside down.
Water police had to be called in to help a tow truck driver pull it to shore.
