Police and Riverton Coastguard were alerted to boaties being in difficulties on Friday
Riverton Coastguard rescued two men from an inflatable boat in Taramea Bay on Friday.
Coastguard and police were alerted to the boaties being in difficulties at 12.45pm.
The coastguard’s acting media officer, Noel Anderson, said the boat was unable to return to shore because its small outboard engine lacked power against strong winds. The men on board were in their early 20s and wearing life jackets.
“Thanks to accurate information and the speed of our rescue vessel, Russell John Chisholm, it was a very successful ending,” Anderson said.
