Three takeaways at halftime vs South Carolina

Jeff Blake-USA TODAY Sports

After losing to LSU and Georgia on both sides of the bye week, Florida’s schedule seemed like it was going to hit a stretch of much more manageable games to close out the year. South Carolina and Missouri have been about as bad as it gets in the SEC, but Florida might not breeze through them as fans believe they should.

The score at halftime makes it clear that Florida isn’t the team it was against FAU or USF, but the burning question is why? Injuries are one easy answer. Ventrell Miller is out for the year and both quarterbacks have had their share of injuries. The flu is the latest to keep some Gators out this week, but there’s also the turnover problem. Florida shoots itself in the foot too much to overcome injuries, even against bad teams.

Dan Mullen, buckle up. The hot seat might get scorching if things don’t get better in the second half.
