Three in hospital after four-vehicle crash involving police car in central Christchurch

Three people have been taken to hospital after a four-car crash involving a police car in central Christchurch.

Police were called to the crash on the corner of Durham St and Salisbury St at about 6.50pm on Friday, a police spokeswoman said.

One of the cars involved was a police car, the spokeswoman confirmed. Its front right was badly damaged and the wheel broken off the axle.

A St John statement said five of their vehicles attended and four people were treated.

Three were moderately injured and taken to Christchurch Hospital, St John said.

The intersection was blocked for about an hour.
