Suspicious Gold Coast house fire leaves man dead, one injured

A man with significant burns is helping police with inquiries today after another man’s body was found following a suspicious fire on the Gold Coast overnight.

The 38-year-old is in a stable condition in Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital under police guard as detectives investigate the deadly blaze at a home in Coomera.

Firefighters were called to the property at about 11pm yesterday when neighbours saw smoke coming out of a town house.

The body of an unidentified man was found after firefighters entered the fire-gutted lower level of the property.

Police are treating the blaze as suspicious and have set up a crime scene at the Gold Coast property.

The 38-year-old man was found at a Redland Bay address a short time after the Coomera fire and was taken to hospital for treatment.

He suffered significant burns but authorities said they were not life threatening.

Police are awaiting an autopsy to determine the man’s cause of death as inquiries continue.
