Six killed in gas blast near Moscow

Six people have died in a gas explosion in a residential building near Moscow.

Another 20 residents were injured in the accident in the five-storey building in the town of Stupino, 100km south of the Russian capital, civil defence authorities said on Monday evening.

Six of them were being treated in hospitals.

In Russia, gas explosions occur frequently, often because safety precautions around using gas cookers to heat homes are not observed.
