Religious discrimination bill contains protections for gay children

Sky News host Jenna Clarke says The Australian is reporting the Attorney-General has allayed concerns the Morrison government’s proposed religious freedoms legislation could be used to discriminate against gay students.

Attorney-General Michaelia Cash has said no child should be “suspended or expelled from school on the basis of their sexuality or gender identity”.

“There is no way that a school should be allowed to discriminate against a child because of their sexuality,” Sky News Darwin Bureau Chief Matt Cunningham told Ms Clarke.

“I’d be surprised if it happens very often at all in this country either to be honest with you, but it shouldn’t be allowed to happen.

“I think most reasonable Australians would be of that belief.”
