Rangers v Hearts: Scottish Cup final into extra time – live! | Scottish Cup

110 min Rangers are passing the ball round, savouring that magical little window when you know something great is about to happen but it hasn’t been confirmed.

106 min Craig Halkett is booked for fouling Sakala. Hearts look finished. They’ve given everything, and were excellent in the first half, but at some point in the second half it started to become too much.

106 min The second period of extra-time is under way. Fashion Sakala has replaced Joe Aribo for Rangers, and Aaron McEneff is on for Cammy Devlin in the Hearts midfield.

Half time in extra time: Rangers 2-0 Hearts

Rangers are on course for victory after two fine goals from Ryan Jack and Scott Wright. I suppose it’s apt, with all the fatigue and injuries, that the game should be decided by a couple of substitutes.

104 min I’ll have what Calvin Bassey’s having. He’s played four hours of football since Wednesday evening and he is still charging up and down the left like it’s the first day of the season. Likewise Ryan Kent, who zips infield and shoots over from 25 yards.

103 min “Matt Dony has some nerve talking about penalties in Scotland v Wales World Cup play-offs,” says Simon McMahon. “The most blatant handball you’ll ever see by Dave Jones at Anfield in 1977, and yet Wales fans are still banging on about it 45 years later…”

101 min Hearts know it’s over, still they cling, they don’t know where else they can go.

The substitute Scott Wright has made it 2-0 after a ruthless counter-attack from Rangers. It was three v two, with Kent on the ball. He played it outside to Wright, who took a touch and drove the ball unerringly into the far corner. Gordon had no chance.

His first touch wasn’t the best, actually; but the second was immaculate. Wright, who had a disappointing night in Seville, has played really well since coming on.

95 min There’s no doubt Rangers deserve to be ahead. The first half was even but since then it has been pretty one-sided.

94 min “MORE extra time for Rangers?” sniffs John Cropp. “I can hear my dad now: ‘GIE’S a BREAK Rangers!!!’ Here’s to three for the Gers in the next five minutes so we can FINALLY get the celebration under way!”

Will one do?

Tavernier’s corner from the left was headed away to the edge of the D, where Jack controlled the ball deftly and thrashed a rising drive past Gordon. It hit the underside of the bar and flew into the net. I think Gordon was unsighted, because it went straight above his head. He appealed for handball after the goal, though there didn’t seem to be any hint of that on the replay.

92 min: Chance for Rangers Another outstanding cross from Bassey is headed over by the stretching Aribo, six yards out. That’s another terrific chance – not quite as good as Diallo’s in the first half, but still eminently takeable.

92 min “Ble mae Ramsey?” says Matt Dony. “There a large but petty part of me looking forward to a potential Wales v Scotland World Cup playoff, with Ramsey Panenkaing the winning penalty in a shootout. Football really does turn us into bad people sometimes. If he’s not going to get onto the pitch, then come on Hearts!”

91 min Extra time is under way.

Full time: Rangers 0-0 Hearts

For the second time in four days, Rangers are going to extra time.

90+3 min That was such a brilliant save from Gordon, though Rangers will legitimately argue that they should have had a penalty. It wasn’t a subtle shirt pull from Atkinson, more a partial disrobing.

90+3 min: Wright hits the bar! Tavernier’s free-kick from the right is headed onto the top of the bar by Scott Wright! He did well to get in front of Kingsley and help it across goal, but he couldn’t get the ball to dip under the bar.

90+1 min: What a save from Gordon! That is sensational goalkeeping! Aribo received a pass on the half turn in the area, ignored a blatant shirt pull from Atkinson – that could have been a penalty – and hit a low drive towards the far corner. Gordon, whose weight was slightly the wrong way, thrust out his left leg to divert the ball just past the post.

90 min Three added minutes. The Hearts players look absolutely shattered.

90 min Rangers break, with Kent playing in the overlapping Bassey on the left side of the area. His cross is cleared at the near post, and I won’t insult your intelligence by telling you which Hearts defender was responsible.

89 min … and swing it straight into McLaughlin’s hands.

88 min Ginnelly gives the Hearts defence a breather by winning a corner, then conducts the Hearts end before it is taken. Kingsley will swing it in from the right…

87 min Ryan Jack curls over from distance. It was an ambitious attempt.

87 min Hearts are hanging on for extra-time. They look really tired now.

85 min Wright lays the ball back invitingly to Lundstram, whose crisp drive from 25 yards is brilliantly blocked by Souttar. He and Bassey have been magnificent.

84 min: Chance for Rangers! Tavernier swings the resulting corner to the near post, where Balogun gets the run on Souttar and flashes a header just over the bar. It brushed the roof of the net rather than hitting the back of it.

83 min Kent’s cross is headed behind by the leaping Souttar, who has had an extremely good game.

82 min: Hearts substitution Josh Ginnelly replaces Barrie McKay, who faded after a bright start.

81 min: Double substitution for Rangers Glen Kamara and Ryan Jack replace Steven Davis and Scott Arfield in midfield.

Ramsey oh, Ramsey oh, where art thou Ramsey? Oh.

79 min Bassey beats Halliday with a Cruyff turn and is brought down in the eyes of everybody except Willie Collum. Bassey has had a sensational game.

77 min “To avoid the ‘heartbreak’ of a penalty ‘lottery’, maybe if cup finals are still level after 120 minutes the trophy should just be ‘withheld’, like the Scottish Cup was in 1909,” says Simon McMahon. “Then Gerry Scott would get his wish and both teams really would lose. And we could replace ‘neither team deserved to lose’ with ‘neither team deserved to win’.”

76 min: Hearts substitution Andy Halliday replaces Liam Boyce, who has had a good game and must still be feeling the injury he sustained last weekend.

75 min: Good save from Gordon! Bassey takes matters into his own hands and almost gives Rangers the lead. He surges past McKay, cuts inside Souttar on the edge of the area and slides a right-footed shot that is pushed away by Gordon, scrambling low to his left.

74 min Aribo flashes a dangerous ball across the six-yard box. A number of Hearts players were doubtful for this game, or have just come back from injury, and that might be starting to catch up with them. Rangers have been much the better team in the second half.

72 min Wright plays a good one-two with Aribo on the edge of the area, forcing Kingsley to come across and make a vital interception. Excellent defending.

71 min Boyce and Atkinson have been a big threat down the right in the last 5-10 minutes. Atkinson is fouled by Kent around 45 yards from goal. McKay’s free-kick is a stinker, claimed easily by McLaughlin.
