Queensland drivers to face fines for not stopping for emergency vehicles

Queensland drivers will face fines for refusing to slow down or move over for emergency vehicles under rules to be brought in this year.

The “move over, slow down” rule means drivers will need to slow down or change lanes when passing a stationary vehicle using flashing lights.

The exact penalty for not stopping for ambulances, police cars, fire engines and towing and breakdown assistance vehicles is yet to be determined.

The RACQ has been calling for the change since 2017 with 90 per cent of its members supporting the move.
