PM will be forced to ‘reopen migration’ if Australians are ‘unwilling’ to fill jobs

Herald Sun journalist Caleb Bond says the Prime Minister will be forced to “reopen migration” if Australians are “unwilling” to fill the more than 200,000 jobs which are currently available.

The Australian Financial Review is reporting the Morrison government is resisting calls to lift migration before the next election out of fears it could suppress wages growth.

“If we get to a point where jobs are simply not being filled because people here are too lazy or don’t want to reskill or whatever to fill those jobs … businesses are going to be knocking on Morrison’s door and saying ‘mate we need workers’,” Mr Bond said.

“And the only way you’re going to get those works is by importing them.”
