NSW health staff isolation exemption only for ‘certain circumstances’

NSW Health Deputy Secretary Susan Pearce says the decision to exempt some asymptomatic close contact health staff from isolation does not mean there will be positive COVID cases going to work.

Ms Pearce stressed the exemptions will only be enabled under "certain circumstances".

"The suggestion that people are being brought back to work when they're positive - certainly, we have no evidence of that," she said during a media conference on Wednesday.

"And if you are a close contact and you're a health staff member, and there is a critical need for return, there is a process to be gone through - that's really important to understand."
