‘Not an easy path’ for Joe Biden to pass bills in Congress


The challenges the Democratic Party are facing are indicative of the low polling numbers President Joe Biden and the party have in America.  
  
The Democrats managed to pass their sprawling infrastructure bill on a narrow margin but lost the presumed safe state of Virginia in the recent gubernatorial election.  
  
“It’s a win for Joe Biden, no question; if he’d failed in that effort, that would have been catastrophic,” he told Sky News Australia. 
  
“One of the things we campaigned on is ‘I’m a bridge builder, I can bring together votes from across the aisle to deliver on key policies’, well he did deliver on this.” 
  
Mr Watson said although the bill passed, six Democrats voted against it, and another package valued at $1.6 trillion for “green policies” and social reform will be debated in Congress soon. 
  
“That really is to throw a bone to the left of the Democratic Party, but even that’s got some opposition from key Democrats in the Senate,” he said.  
  
“It’s not going to be an easy path for the president.”
