Non-urgent elective surgeries suspended until March 1

Queensland is immediately suspending non-urgent elective surgeries across the state until at least March 1 as Omicron cases continue to surge.

Health Minister Yvette D’Ath said the measures would be reviewed at the end of January based on the number of cases.

“From today, we are initiating a statewide suspension of non-urgent elective surgery,” Ms D’Ath said.

“So that is category three and some category two surgery.”

It comes as the Sunshine State recorded 11,174 new COVID-19 cases and one death on Saturday.
