New York Cop Braves Ice to Rescue Dog From Partially Frozen Lake

A police officer in upstate New York who’d recently been commended for saving a woman from a burning house turned on the heroics again on January 5, his department said, this time for a “4-legged friend”. Footage released by the Lewiston Police Department shows Officer John Smith racing to rescue a dog that fell into the icy water of a partially frozen lake. The dog “was trapped in the water about 50 yards from shore,” the department said. “Without hesitation [Smith] removed his equipment and went in after him, bringing him safely back to land and reuniting him with his owner.” Credit: Lewiston Police Department via Storyful
