McGowan refutes Ashes early border reopening, slams Greg Hunt

Premier Mark McGowan has ripped into Health Minister Greg Hunt and the Commonwealth government over speculation he intends to open up the state border early for The Ashes.

Reporters informed Premier McGowan that Mr Hunt said the Commonwealth had a “good understanding” he would open the borders earlier for the Ashes test series, at a media conference on Monday.

“Okay, I’ve never met Greg Hunt, I’ve never spoken to Greg Hunt, I wouldn’t know him if I met him,” Mr McGowan told reporters.

“He’s got a very vivid imagination, he hasn’t spoken to the health minister, I just urged the Commonwealth government to stop making things up.

“I don’t know why he would think that, he has no basis to say that – the Commonwealth has been difficult the whole way along the last two years – always trying to be adventurous and unsafe.”
