The press conference is set to begin at 7.30pm (10.30pm AEDT).

It’s understood the state’s long-awaited February 5 border reopening will be delayed.

Doctors and nurses have been pressuring the McGowan government to push back the date in the face of the Omicron variant spreading rapidly in the eastern states.

There are concerns about the small number of people who have received a booster shot and desires to vaccinate more children.

“I repeat my call to the Premier: we are not ready,” Australian Nursing Federation state secretary Mark Olson said on Thursday.

Western Australia has had arguably the toughest COVID-19 restrictions in Australia throughout the pandemic.

It is currently essentially closed off to the rest of the country in a bid to keep the Omicron variant of the coronavirus from taking hold.
