A man has been charged with murder following the daylight shooting of a grandfather in the NSW central west last year.
Police were baffled by the attack on 48-year-old Wellington man Frank Smith, who was described as a supportive and loving father and grandad.
The handyman collapsed in the front yard of a home after being shot in the abdomen on April 27, 2020, and was driven by a Good Samaritan to Wellington Base Hospital, where he died.
Earlier this year, investigators recovered a firearm linked to his death.
Detectives arrested a 31-year-old man in Wellington on Wednesday and charged him with murder.
He was refused bail to appear in Dubbo Local Court on Thursday.
Homicide Squad Detective Inspector Virginia Gorman said inquiries were ongoing.
“I’m hopeful today brings some comfort to those who knew and loved Frank, however, our investigations into this shooting are ongoing and I urge anyone with information to come forward,” Det Insp Gorman said.
