Liberals coy over special fund for regional Australia struck amid net zero deal

Finance Minister Simon Birmingham has remained coy over whether or not a regional slush fund was set up as part of the agreement between the Coalition parties over net zero.

It comes as Deputy Prime Minister and Nationals leader Barnaby Joyce let a media conference on Thursday morning know that a fund was set up as a provision for regional Australia as part of a deal struck between the Liberal and National parties over net zero.

“As I said, where we have new investment policies to make, we will make those announcements once they’ve bee through all the regular cabinet processes, all the normal costings processes and they’ll be there as part of the normal budget arrangements,” he told Sky News Australia.

Mr Birmingham said there should be “no surprise” there will be ongoing continued investment in regional Australia.
