Katherine enters three-day lockdown after NT’s first case of community transmission

Katherine has entered a snap three-day lockdown after the Northern Territory recorded its first case of COVID-19 community transmission.

The case involves an unvaccinated man in his 20s who tested positive to COVID-19 and was infectious while in the community.

The positive case is a contract worker at RAAF Base Tindal outside the town and returned a “strong positive” result last night.

Katherine residents will only be allowed to leave their homes for medical reasons, to get essential goods and services, for essential work, exercise, and to provide care.

The infection is the first case of community transmission in the Territory

Darwin will also enter a “lockout’” whereby the fully vaccinated will have freedom of movement while the unvaccinated will be in lockdown.
