Former Wellington Phoenix skipper Ulises Davila’s wife Lily dies suddenly


Former Wellington Phoenix skipper Ulises Davila’s wife Lily has died suddenly, the Macarthur A-League football club has announced.

“We are saddened to hear Ulises Davila’s wife Lily has tragically passed away overnight,” Macarthur said in a statement on Monday.

The couple have a young son, Uli junior.

“The club would like to express its heartfelt condolences to Uli, Uli Jnr and the extended family during this difficult time.”

Davila, a former Mexico junior international, signed for the Phoenix in 2019.

He scored 19 goals and registered 12 assists during his two-year stint with the Phoenix, amassing 50 appearances and spending the 2020-21 season as captain.

Davila bid farewell to the Phoenix in June last year with a classy performance in their 3-0 win over his future club Macarthur.

He shared the A-League’s prized Johnny Warren Medal with Sydney FC’s Milos Ninkovic in 2020/21.

Just last week he celebrated being named the Macarthur Bulls player of the year with Lily at the club’s awards.
