Fatal crash in Levin closes State Highway 57



One person has died following a two-vehicle crash on Arapaepae Road, State Highway 57 at Levin.

The crash was reported just before 6.30am.

Two other people – one in a critical condition, and another in a serious condition – were taken to hospital.

State Highway 57 remains closed in both directions between Heatherlea East road and Tavistock Road, with traffic being diverted to State Highway 1, according to Waka Kotahi.

An investigation into the cause of the crash is underway.

This latest incident adds to a deadly start to the Anzac long weekend after a collision in Invercargill Friday afternoon claimed multiple lives.

The death toll for the Easter long weekend was four.
