Egypt reopens restored road with lavish ceremony

Egypt has held a lavish ceremony to reopen a restored road in a major tourist hotspot – built 3,400 years ago.

The connection linking Karnak and Luxor is lined with hundreds of rams and human-headed sphinxes.

The restoration took seven decades.

Tourism is a crucial source of jobs for the country – revenues have plunged by $9 billion since the start of the COVID crisis.
