Concerns grow over Gold Coast COVID cases ahead of schoolies week

Urgent contact tracing in underway to find the source of two mystery COVID cases on the Gold Coast ahead of the commencement of schoolies week.

The Gold Coast has avoided lockdown but Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk warned the next 24 to 48 hours will be crucial.

The two latest cases recorded yesterday were linked to emerging clusters bringing a sigh of relief to residents.

One case is a child under 10 and the other is a teenager connected to the Goondiwindi and Moree Cluster.

High school graduates are due to celebrate the end of the year at the popular holiday destination but authorities aren’t ruling out imposing restrictions.

Annastacia Palaszczuk has again pleaded with Queenslanders to lift the lagging vaccination rate.

The state is expected to reach its 70 percent double dose milestone early next week.
