‘By all means, have a peaceful protest’: Captain Cook statue vandalised

NSW Labor MP Tania Mihailuk says the vandalism of a St Kilda Captain Cook statue only causes unnecessary grief.

The statue was covered in red paint by protestors on the eve of Australia Day.

“Vandalism is vandalism. If you want to make a point, by all means, have a peaceful protest but this just causes unnecessary grief,” Ms Mihailuk told Sky News host Chris Smith.

“It means that the rate payers have to pay for the clean-up and some poor council worker, instead of having a day off, is forced to clean the statue.

“So I don’t know what the point of this type of vandalism is.”
