Burst main floods Porirua carpark and blocks entrances to stores

A burst water main has lifted concrete and blocked the entrances to stores in Porirua this morning.

Chris Edge said he was on his way to work about 6.45am when he came across the flooded carpark outside Harvey Norman on Parumoana St.

“It must have been a big force, It had lifted the concrete paving above where the main had burst,” Edge said.

The water was nearly a foot deep in parts of the carpark.

“I was quite daring and drove my little Mitsubishi Lancer through it, which I probably shouldn’t have,” Edge said.

A water main has burst in the carpark off Parumoana St in Porirua on Tuesday morning.

A spokesperson from Wellington Water said a 150 millimetre pipe had burst and contractors were investigating a 300mm pipe next to it.

It was estimated the pipe should be repaired by 1pm.

Parts of Eldson, Takapūwāhia and Porirua central were experiencing water outages. A tanker had been stationed at Awarua St and another was roaming the area to supply water to affected residents.

Wellington Water asked Tītahi Bay residents to conserve water due to the outage.
