Australian MP reacts to the murder of Sir David Amess

Shadow Attorney-General Tim Smith has released a statement on the murder of British MP Sir David Amess.

Sir David died after a meeting with constituents where he was stabbed several times in what has been declared a terror incident by police.

Mr Smith worked with Sir David as an intern in the House of Commons, recalling it as a “once in a lifetime experience”.

Mr Smith condemned the attack as “utterly sickening”.

“I found Sir David to be an exceptionally kind and amusing boss, he was a true gentleman in every sense of the word,” Mr Smith said.

“To learn that he was murdered whilst doing what he always said was the most important job of a local MP is utterly sickening.”
